What Is Music Ingestion?
Music ingestion is the process of adding a new release (single, EP, album) to your Fanaura account. Once a release is in Fanaura, it gets:- A presave page where fans can save it to Spotify, Apple Music, and other platforms before release day
- A stream page that automatically activates on release day with links to every platform
- Fan data collection — every fan who presaves or streams is captured in your database
- Analytics — track presaves, conversions, and streaming engagement
- Flow triggers — use the release as a trigger for automated fan journeys
How to Start
There are several ways to launch the Music Ingestion Wizard:Option 1: Ask Aura
Just type something like:- “I want to add a new release”
- “Create a new single”
- “Help me set up a presave for my new song”
- “Add my new album”
Option 2: Aura’s Tool
Aura can also trigger thestart_music_ingestion tool directly. This happens behind the scenes when it detects you want to create a release.
Either way, you’ll see the same interactive card interface.
The Wizard: Step by Step
Step 1: Basic Information
An interactive card appears in the chat with fields for:- Title — the name of your release (single, EP, or album title)
- Artist Name — pre-filled with your artist name, but editable for collaborations or features
- Release Type — Single, EP, or Album
Step 2: ISRC Lookup (The Magic Step)
If you have an ISRC code (International Standard Recording Code), this is where things get exciting. What’s an ISRC? It’s a unique 12-character code assigned to every recorded track. Your distributor (DistroKid, TuneCore, CD Baby, etc.) gives you one when you upload your music. It looks like:US1234567890.
Enter your ISRC and Aura searches:
- Spotify — finds the track, pulls artwork, title, artist, and Spotify ID
- Apple Music — finds the Apple Music listing and ID
- YouTube Music — finds the YouTube Music listing
- Song title (verified against what you entered)
- Artist name
- Album artwork (high-resolution cover art from Spotify)
- Spotify track ID
- Apple Music track ID
- YouTube Music ID
- Genre (if available)
Step 3: Artwork
If the ISRC lookup found your artwork, it’s already loaded. You’ll see a preview of the cover art in the card. If not, you can:- Upload your own artwork (drag and drop or browse)
- Artwork is displayed prominently on your presave and stream pages, so use high-quality images (minimum 1400x1400 pixels recommended)
Step 4: Dates
Set the key dates for your release:- Presave Start Date — when fans can start presaving (calendar picker)
- Release Date — when the music goes live on streaming platforms (calendar picker)
- Open presaves at least 2 weeks before release for maximum collection
- Set the release date to match your distributor’s release date exactly
- Presave pages can go live the moment you create the release
Step 5: Presave Platforms
Select which platforms fans can presave on:- Spotify — saves to their library on release day (requires OAuth)
- Apple Music — adds to their library on release day
- YouTube Music — adds to their playlist
- Amazon Music — saves for release day
- Deezer — adds to favorites
- Tidal — adds to collection
Step 6: Review
A review card appears showing everything:- Title and artist name
- Cover artwork
- ISRC code (if provided)
- Platform IDs found
- Presave start date and release date
- Enabled platforms
Step 7: Create
Click the Create Release button on the review card. Aura creates your release and you’ll see:- Confirmation message
- Your presave page URL (ready to share immediately)
- A song card with all the details
ISRC Auto-Search: How It Works
The ISRC lookup is one of the most powerful features of the Music Ingestion Wizard. Here’s what happens behind the scenes:- You enter an ISRC code (e.g.,
USAT22400123) - Aura calls the Spotify API to search for that ISRC
- If found on Spotify, Aura retrieves:
- Track name and artist name
- Album artwork URL (640x640 high-res)
- Spotify track URI
- Preview URL (if available)
- Aura then searches Apple Music by ISRC
- Aura searches YouTube Music
- All found data is compiled and auto-filled into your release card
Spotify Metadata Deep Dive
When Aura finds your track on Spotify, here’s the specific data that gets pulled:- Track Name — official title as listed on Spotify
- Artist Name — primary artist (and featured artists)
- Album Name — the album or single it belongs to
- Album Artwork — multiple sizes (64px, 300px, 640px); Fanaura uses the highest quality
- Spotify URI — the unique Spotify identifier for presave integration
- Release Date — as listed on Spotify
- Duration — track length
- Explicit — whether the track is marked explicit
Duplicate Handling
If you try to create a release with the same title as an existing release in your account, Aura will warn you:“You already have a release called ‘Midnight Drive.’ Would you like to update the existing release or create a new one?”This prevents accidental duplicates. If it’s genuinely a different release with the same name, you can proceed with creation. If it’s a mistake, you can update the existing one instead.
Persist Across Reloads
Worried about losing your progress if you accidentally close the tab or your browser crashes? Don’t be. The Music Ingestion Wizard saves its state automatically. If you refresh the page or come back later, your in-progress release will be right where you left it. No data loss, no starting over. After Creation: What Happens Next
Once your release is created:- Presave page is live — share the URL immediately on social media, in your bio, in emails
- Smart link generated — available at
fan.fanaura.com/[artistSlug]/[releaseSlug] - Data collection begins — every fan who presaves is captured in your database
- Flow triggers armed — if you’ve set up a presave flow, it activates for new presavers
- On release day — the presave page automatically converts to a stream page
- Post-release — streaming link aggregation begins, platform links are verified
Common Questions
Can I edit a release after creating it?
Yes. Go to the Assets section, find your release, and edit any details. You can also ask Aura: “Update the release date for ‘Midnight Drive’ to April 5.”What if my ISRC doesn’t return results?
Your music might not be delivered to streaming platforms yet. Create the release manually (enter title, artwork, and dates yourself) and add the ISRC later. Aura will re-search when you add it.Can I create an album with multiple tracks?
Yes. When selecting release type, choose “Album” and you can add multiple tracks, each with their own ISRC codes.Do fans need to re-presave if I update the release?
No. Presaves are locked in once a fan completes them. Updates to your release details (artwork, dates, etc.) don’t affect existing presaves.Tips
- Get your ISRC early. Ask your distributor for the ISRC as soon as they assign it, even before the music is on platforms. You can start the ingestion process early.
- Use high-quality artwork. The cover art is the centerpiece of your presave page. Use at least 1400x1400 pixels for crisp display on all devices.
- Set presave dates strategically. Open presaves 2-4 weeks before release for maximum collection time. Too early and momentum stalls; too late and you miss potential fans.
- Always enable Spotify and Apple Music. These are the two platforms where presave-to-library functionality works best.
- Share immediately. The moment your presave page is live, share the link. The clock is ticking.
