This tutorial walks you through creating a presave campaign from scratch. By the end, you will have a live smart link collecting fan emails, phone numbers, and Spotify data. The whole process takes about five minutes.

Why Presaves Matter

A presave is one of the most powerful fan acquisition tools in music. When a fan presaves your song:
  • You get their data — email, phone number, Spotify account, and location
  • They get reminded — the song automatically saves to their library on release day
  • Algorithms notice — a strong presave count signals to Spotify and Apple Music that your release matters
  • You build a list — every presaver becomes a fan you can contact directly for future releases, merch drops, and tour announcements
Fanaura makes presave campaigns dead simple and captures far more data than a basic presave link.

Step 1: Add a Music Release

  1. Click “Assets” in the sidebar navigation (or go to /assets directly).
  2. You will see the Assets page with tabs for Music, Merch, Tours, and Extras.
  3. Make sure you are on the Music tab.

Create a New Music Asset

  1. Click the “New Release” button (or the ”+” card if you have no releases yet).
  2. A modal will open asking for your release details.

Fill In the Release Details

FieldDescriptionRequired?
Track/Album TitleThe name of your release (e.g., “Midnight Drive”)Yes

Pre-Save DateThe date fans can start presaving. This is usually the day you announce the release.Yes
Release DateThe actual release date on streaming platforms.Yes
Streaming LinksSpotify URI, Apple Music URL, YouTube link, etc. Add these as they become available.Add later
  1. Click “Create Release” to save your music asset.
Tip: You do not need all streaming links right away. Add your Spotify URI first (it is usually available before release day), and add Apple Music, YouTube, and other links as they go live.

Step 2: Create a Launch

A launch is the marketing campaign wrapped around your asset. Think of the asset as the product and the launch as the campaign.
  1. Click “Launches” in the sidebar navigation.
  2. Click the “New Launch” button in the top-right corner.

Set Up the Launch

  1. Select “Music” as the launch type.
  2. Choose your music asset from the dropdown (you will see the release you just created).
  3. Give it a name (e.g., “Midnight Drive - Presave Campaign”). Fanaura will auto-suggest a name based on the asset.
  4. Click “Create Launch”.
Your launch is created and you land on the launch detail page.

What You Will See on the Launch Detail Page

  • Launch header with the title, artwork, and status badge (Active, Draft, etc.)
  • Stage badge showing the current stage: Pre-Release (purple), Release (orange), or Post-Release (pink)
  • Progress bar with milestone markers (Pre-Save Opens, Release Date, Post-Release)
  • Fan counters showing entered, active, and completed fan counts
  • Flows section where you can build automation sequences
  • Smart Link — your auto-generated presave page URL

Every launch gets an auto-generated smart link. This is a beautiful, branded landing page where fans can presave your release and submit their data. On the launch detail page, look for the Smart Link section. Your link will look something like:
fanaura.com/lunawaves/midnight-drive
Your smart link page includes:
  • Your artwork displayed prominently
  • Track title and artist name
  • Presave buttons for Spotify, Apple Music, and other platforms
  • Data collection wrapper — a popup or inline form that collects email, phone number, and location before (or after) the presave action
  • Your branding — the page uses your artist profile image and name
Share your smart link everywhere:
  • Instagram bio — replace your Linktree with your Fanaura smart link
  • Instagram Stories — use the link sticker
  • Twitter/X — pin a tweet with the presave link
  • TikTok bio — add it to your profile link
  • Email signature — include it in every email you send
  • Text messages — send it directly to your closest fans
  • Discord/Community — post it in your fan community
Tip: The first 48 hours after announcing a presave campaign are the most important. That is when excitement is highest and fans are most likely to take action. Have your smart link ready before you make the announcement.

Step 4: Watch Fans Roll In

Once fans start hitting your smart link and presaving, you will see data flowing in real time.

On Your Dashboard

  • Total Fans stat card updates as new fans register
  • New Fans shows the count for your selected time range
  • Recent Activity feed shows live fan actions (“Sarah J. presaved Midnight Drive”, “Mike R. signed up via SMS”)
  • Active Launches widget shows your campaign with a live progress bar

On the Launch Detail Page

  • Fan counters update in real time (entered, active, completed)
  • Progress bar advances as milestones are reached
  • Flow execution counts show how many fans have gone through your automation sequences

On the Fans Page

Every presaver appears in your Fans database. Click on any fan to see their profile:
  • Name and email
  • Phone number (if provided)
  • Location (city, state, country)
  • Spotify account info
  • Which assets they have interacted with
  • Full activity timeline

What Happens Behind the Scenes

When a fan clicks your smart link and presaves, a chain of events fires automatically:
  1. Fan record created — their email, name, phone, and location are saved to your fan database.
  2. Presave recorded — the presave is logged against your music asset with a timestamp and platform.
  3. Wrapper data captured — if the fan interacted with the data collection wrapper, their email and phone number opt-ins are recorded.
  4. Flow triggers fire — if you have set up flows on this launch, any “on presave” trigger will start executing. For example, a thank-you email, a confirmation SMS, or an Instagram DM welcome message.
  5. Analytics update — your dashboard stats, fan growth chart, and geographic heatmap all update in real time.
  6. VIP points awarded — if you have enabled the rewards system, the fan earns points for presaving.

Optional: Add Automation Flows

You do not need flows for your first presave campaign — the smart link will collect data perfectly fine on its own. But when you are ready to level up, flows let you automate everything.

Quick Flow Ideas for a Presave Campaign

Pre-Release Flow:
  1. Fan presaves —> Send thank-you email immediately
  2. Wait 3 days —> Send Instagram DM with a teaser clip
  3. Wait until 1 day before release —> Send SMS reminder: “Tomorrow! Your presave of Midnight Drive goes live.”
Release Day Flow:
  1. Release date trigger fires —> Send email blast: “It’s here! Midnight Drive is live.”
  2. Include streaming links for every platform
  3. Ask fans to add the song to their playlists
Post-Release Flow:
  1. Wait 7 days after release —> Send email with merch bundle offer
  2. Wait 14 days —> Send SMS with behind-the-scenes content
  3. Wait 30 days —> Ask fans to share the song with friends
To create flows, go to your launch detail page and click “Add Flow” in the Flows section. You will be taken to the visual Flow Builder where you can drag and drop actions, conditions, and delays.

Best Practices

Timing

  • Announce presaves 2-4 weeks before release for maximum data collection
  • Share the link multiple times across different platforms on different days
  • Ramp up posting frequency in the final week before release

Data Collection

  • Keep the wrapper simple — ask for email at minimum, phone if you plan to use SMS
  • Explain the value — tell fans what they get by signing up (exclusive content, early access, etc.)
  • Respect opt-outs — Fanaura tracks opt-in/opt-out status automatically
  • Use a short, memorable URL — your slug + release name makes a clean link
  • Test the link yourself before sharing publicly
  • Check on mobile — most fans will access it from their phones

Troubleshooting

No fans are showing up

  • Make sure your smart link is actually being shared (open it in an incognito window to test)
  • Check that the wrapper (data collection popup) is enabled in your wrapper settings
  • Verify the launch status is “Active” (not “Draft”)

Fans presaved but no data was captured

  • The fan may have skipped the data collection wrapper. If the wrapper is set to trigger on page load, most fans will see it. If it is set to trigger on presave action, it fires after they click the presave button.
  • Check Settings to make sure wrapper triggers are enabled
  • Make sure the launch has an associated music asset
  • Verify the launch is not deleted (check the “Deleted” tab on the Launches page)
