How Platform Links Work
The behavior of your smart link changes based on where you are in your release timeline:Before Release (Pre-Release Phase)
When your music has not been released yet:- Fans visit your smart link.
- They see your artwork, song title, and release date.
- Presave buttons appear for the platforms you have enabled (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.).
- Fans click their preferred platform and authorize the presave.
- No streaming links are shown because the song is not yet available.
On Release Day
When your release date arrives:- Fanaura uses your song’s ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) to search across all platforms.
- It queries the Odesli API (also known as Songlink/Odesli), which is a universal music link service.
- Odesli returns direct links to your song on every platform where it is available.
- Fanaura automatically updates your smart link with these streaming links.
- Presave buttons are replaced with “Stream Now” buttons.
After Release
Once your song is live:- Fans visit your smart link.
- They see “Stream Now” buttons for every platform where your song is available.
- Clicking a button takes them directly to your song on that platform.
- Every click is tracked and attributed to the fan’s profile.
The ISRC Connection
The ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) is the key that makes automatic platform detection work:- Every professionally distributed song receives an ISRC from your distributor.
- The ISRC is a unique identifier, like a fingerprint for your recording.
- When you enter your ISRC in Fanaura, it can search for your song across all platforms simultaneously.
- Without an ISRC, Fanaura cannot automatically find your song on release day. You would need to add links manually.
Where to Find Your ISRC
- Your music distributor (DistroKid, TuneCore, CD Baby, AWAL, etc.) provides the ISRC after you upload your release.
- It looks like this:
USRC12345678 - You can also find it on Spotify for Artists under the song details.
Tip: Enter your ISRC in Fanaura as early as possible — ideally when you first create the music asset. This ensures automatic platform detection is ready to go on release day.

Click Tracking
Every platform click on your smart link is tracked and attributed:- Which platform: Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, etc.
- Which fan: The fan who clicked (if they provided their data).
- When: Timestamp of the click.
- From where: Geographic location of the click.
- Which platforms your fans prefer (maybe 60% Spotify, 25% Apple Music, 15% other).
- Geographic platform preferences (Apple Music might dominate in certain cities while Spotify leads in others).
- Engagement patterns over time.
Manual Override
While automatic platform detection via ISRC works for most cases, you always have manual control:Adding Links Manually
- Open the music asset in Fanaura.
- Go to the Platform Links section.
- Click Add Link.
- Select the platform.
- Paste the direct URL to your song on that platform.
- Save.
When to Use Manual Override
- Before your distributor provides links: If your song is live on Spotify but Odesli has not detected it yet, you can add the Spotify link manually.
- For platforms Odesli misses: Occasionally, a platform link might not be detected automatically. Manual entry covers the gap.
- For special URLs: If you want to link to a specific playlist, album page, or video rather than the song’s default page.
- For non-standard releases: DJ mixes, podcasts, or other content that might not have standard ISRC-based detection.
Editing Automatically Detected Links
If Odesli detects a link but it is wrong (pointing to a different version of the song, for example):- Open the music asset.
- Find the platform link you want to change.
- Click Edit.
- Replace the URL with the correct one.
- Save.
Choosing Which Platforms to Display
You do not have to show every platform on your smart link. If your audience is primarily on Spotify and Apple Music, you might only want to show those two:- Open the music asset.
- Go to the Platform Settings section.
- Enable or disable individual platforms.
- Only enabled platforms appear on your smart link.
Tip: Showing fewer platforms creates a cleaner, less overwhelming experience for fans. However, showing more platforms ensures no fan is left out. Find the balance that works for your audience.
Best Practices
- Enter your ISRC early: As soon as your distributor gives you the ISRC, add it to your Fanaura music asset. This enables automatic platform detection on release day.
- Enable all major platforms for presaves: Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music cover the vast majority of fans. Add others based on your audience.
- Check links after release: On release day, verify that all platform links are correct by clicking through each one. If any are wrong, use manual override.
- Track platform preferences: Over multiple releases, you will see which platforms your fans prefer. Use this data to prioritize your marketing efforts.
- Include YouTube for music videos: If you have a music video, add a YouTube link alongside your streaming links. Fans who prefer watching over listening will appreciate the option.
- Keep links updated: If a platform link changes (album version replaces single version, etc.), update it in Fanaura so fans always land on the right page.
What Happens Next
When you create a music asset in Fanaura and set a release date:- Presave buttons appear automatically for your enabled platforms.
- Fans presave on their platform of choice.
- On release day, Fanaura executes presaves and detects streaming links via ISRC.
- Your smart link seamlessly transitions from presave to streaming mode.
- Every click is tracked, giving you valuable insight into how fans engage with your music.
