# Texting number

> Search, purchase, verification, and carrier approval for SMS on iPhone.

Open from **Settings** → **Connections and messaging** → **Texting number**.

## States

| State | What you see |
| - | - |
| No number | **Choose your texting number** on Settings. Hero prompts search |
| Pending carrier | Number assigned but **Carrier approval is not confirmed** or similar |
| Verified | Full number shown with green check on Settings |
| Failed | **Approval needs attention** or **Needs attention** on the detail screen |

## Search and purchase

| Control | Action |
| - | - |
| Country | Pick country for number search |
| Area code | Enter preferred area code |
| **Search** | Loads available numbers |
| Number list | Tap a number to select |
| Verification | Business verification proof when required by carrier rules |
| Purchase | Apple in-app purchase or plan step when the product requires payment |
| **Confirm** | Provisions the number on your account |

Changing country or area code clears the current selection.

## After purchase

| Section | Content |

| **Approval progress** | Carrier and 10DLC / TFV steps with dates where available |
| **Refresh status** | Polls carrier approval (automatic polling while waiting) |
| Number display | E.164 or formatted local display |

Until carriers approve the number, SMS blasts and journey SMS replies stay blocked. The [journey editor](/ios/journey-editor) lists this as a reply blocker when relevant.

Back returns to Settings or replaces to Settings if there is no stack history.
