# Actions

> A complete guide to every action type in the Fanaura Flow Builder — from sending emails and SMS to AI-powered multi-channel messaging.

Actions are the heart of your flow. They are the things that actually happen — the emails that get sent, the texts that go out, the fan profiles that get updated. After a trigger fires, actions execute in sequence, one after another, delivering your campaign to fans automatically.

## Send Email

Send a richly designed email to the fan. This is your most versatile communication action.

### Configuration

When you add a Send Email action, a modal opens with:

* **Subject line**: Write your email subject. Supports [merge tags](/flow-builder/merge-tags) for personalization (e.g., "`{fan_first_name}`, your presave is confirmed!")
* **Email body**: A full rich HTML editor powered by the Topol email builder
* **From settings**: Uses your default from name and email address (can be overridden in [Flow Settings](/flow-builder/settings))
* **Preview and Test**: Preview the email and send a test to yourself before activating

### The Email Editor

The Topol email builder gives you a professional drag-and-drop editor:

* **Drag-and-drop blocks**: Text, images, buttons, dividers, spacers, columns, social icons
* **Image upload**: Upload images directly or paste URLs
* **Button styling**: Customize colors, shapes, sizes, and link URLs
* **Template library**: Start from pre-built templates designed for music marketing
* **My Templates**: Save your designs as reusable templates
* **Mobile preview**: Toggle between desktop and mobile views

### Merge Tags in Email

Insert dynamic fan data anywhere in the subject line or body:

* `{fan_first_name}` — The fan's first name
* `{artist_name}` — Your artist name
* `{latest_title}` — The title of your latest release
* `{ai_dsp_link}` — Smart link that routes fans to their preferred streaming platform

See [Merge Tags](/flow-builder/merge-tags) for the complete list.

<Tip>Always send yourself a test email to verify merge tags render correctly and the design looks good on mobile.</Tip>

For a deep dive, see [Send Email](/flow-builder/send-email).

## Send SMS

Send a text message to the fan's phone number.

### Configuration

* **Message body**: Write your SMS text. Keep it concise — SMS is a personal channel.
* **Character counter**: Displays the current character count and SMS segment count (160 characters per segment)
* **Merge tags**: Insert fan data for personalization
* **Phone number**: Uses your provisioned provisioned phone number

### Important Notes

<Warning>Only sends to fans with **SMS opt-in enabled** — compliance is automatic. Fans without opt-in are silently skipped.</Warning>

* **10DLC local** numbers: send rate is capped per your line's **messages-per-minute** and carrier rules (see [SMS](/integrations/sms))
* You must have a provisioned phone number (set up in Settings, then Integrations)

For a deep dive, see [Send SMS](/flow-builder/send-sms).

## Send Instagram DM

Send a direct message to a fan on Instagram.

### Configuration

* **Message body**: Write your DM text. Keep it personal — DMs feel like real conversations.
* **Media attachment**: Optionally attach an image or video
* **Merge tags**: Personalize with fan data

### Important Notes

<Warning>Instagram requires the fan to have **interacted with you within 24 hours** for DM delivery. Plan your delays accordingly.</Warning>

* **Comment-to-DM triggers** use the Human Agent 24-hour window, giving you more flexibility
* Your Instagram account must be connected via the Integrations page

For a deep dive, see [Send Instagram DM](/flow-builder/send-instagram-dm).

## Aura Send

**Aura Send** is Fanaura's AI-powered multi-channel action. Instead of creating separate email, SMS, and Instagram DM actions, Aura Send lets you compose one message that gets intelligently adapted for each channel.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Write Your Core Message">
    Write the main idea of what you want to say once.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Customize Per Channel">
    Aura Send provides per-channel editors so you can customize the version for email, SMS, and IG DM.
  </Step>

  <Step title="AI Adapts Your Tone">
    AI adapts your tone, length, and formatting for each channel's best practices.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Send to Fans">
    The message sends to the fan on their preferred or most-engaged channel — or on all channels if you choose.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### Configuration

* **Core message**: Write the main idea of what you want to say
* **Email version**: Customize the email subject, body, and design
* **SMS version**: A shorter, punchier version for text
* **Instagram DM version**: Conversational tone for DMs
* **Channel selection**: Send on all channels, or let AI pick the best one based on fan behavior

### When to Use Aura Send

<Tip>Use Aura Send for big announcements when you want every fan to see the message regardless of their preferred channel.</Tip>

* **Release announcements**: One message, every channel
* **Important updates**: Ensure fans see it regardless of their preferred channel
* **Time-sensitive campaigns**: Maximize reach by hitting email, SMS, and DMs simultaneously

***

## Add to List

Add the fan to one of your fan lists. Lists help you segment your audience for targeted messaging.

### Configuration

* **Select list**: Choose from your existing fan lists (or create a new one)
* **Behavior**: If the fan is already on the list, nothing happens — no duplicates

### Use Cases

* Add presave fans to a "Presave VIPs" list for release day priority
* Add ticket buyers to a "Tour Attendees" list for post-show follow-ups
* Segment fans by behavior — "Opened 3+ emails" list for your most engaged audience

***

## Invite to Extra

Invite the fan to one of your Extras — exclusive content, experiences, or events available only to select fans.

### Configuration

* **Select Extra**: Choose from your existing Extras
* **Invitation message**: Optional custom message delivered with the invitation

### Use Cases

* Invite top fans to an early listening session
* Grant access to behind-the-scenes content
* Unlock exclusive merch drops for loyal supporters

***

## Tag/Update Fan

Modify a fan's profile data. This is essential for segmentation and personalization.

### Configuration

* **Action**: Choose to add a tag, remove a tag, or update a field
* **Tag name**: The tag to add or remove (e.g., "presaved", "vip", "tour-2026")
* **Field updates**: Change fan profile fields like VIP tier, notes, or custom fields

### Use Cases

* Tag fans who presaved: `presaved-midnight-drive`
* Update VIP tier after a purchase: Set tier to "Gold"
* Add notes for personal follow-up: "Met at Nashville show"
* Remove outdated tags: Remove "presale-eligible" after on-sale starts

<Tip>Tag aggressively. Tags are free and make future segmentation easy. Tag fans at every meaningful step in their journey.</Tip>

## Go to Flow

Redirect the fan from the current flow into a different flow. This is how you chain flows together.

### Configuration

* **Target flow**: Select the flow to redirect the fan to. Can be any flow in any launch (or a Quick Automation).
* **Behavior**: The fan exits the current flow and enters the target flow at its beginning. They will then proceed through the target flow's actions.

### Use Cases

* **Modular design**: Multiple triggers feed into a shared "Welcome Sequence" flow
* **Cross-stage transitions**: A Pre-Release flow sends fans to a Release Day flow when the time comes
* **Conditional routing**: Based on a condition, send fans to different flows for different experiences
* **Reusable sequences**: Build a "Thank You" flow once, reference it from everywhere

### Important Notes

<Note>Go-to-Flow creates a new enrollment in the target flow — the fan is tracked in both flows. Target flows can be triggerless (no trigger node) — they are designed to be entered via Go-to-Flow.</Note>

* The fan must match the target flow's enrollment criteria (if any)

## Execution Order

Actions in a flow execute **sequentially** — one after the other, from top to bottom:

```
Trigger
  |
Action 1 (Send Email)        <-- Executes first
  |
Delay (Wait 2 days)          <-- Waits
  |
Action 2 (Send SMS)          <-- Executes after delay
  |
Condition (Did they click?)
  |-- Yes -> Action 3a       <-- This branch executes
  |-- No  -> Action 3b       <-- OR this branch executes
```

The only exception is conditions, which create parallel branches. After a condition, only one branch executes per fan — the Yes path or the No path, never both.
